Private residence
Lake Como (Como, Italy)
This private residence is located on the top floor of a historic building from the 1500s in a small village on Lake Como.
The apartment was completely renovated in 2014 keeping as much as possible the original elements such as the wooden ceiling, the design of the windows, the doors and the huge truss in the center of the dining room.
All the added finishes have been carefully selected to respect the nature of the building and the home décor reflects the personality of his new owner who is an architect, a painter, a traveller and an art collector. He created an eclectic atmosphere that is a mixture of Italian tradition and influences from all over the world.
The decor of the whole house is a mixture of styles where deco, design and vintage coexist in harmony.
The colors chosen for the interiors are those typical of the Italian tradition, and each room is different: light blue, pink, beige, grey, white and peacock blue.
In the formal living room there is a wooden floor with a typical decoration of the old villas, a 19th century fireplace, a vintage crystal chandelier, a 2m high golden giraffe statue, a sofa designed by the owner, antique panels depicting birds and part of the precious glass collection.
The kitchen is the most modern room of this apartment. White furniture, black and white checkered marble floor and an unusual black color that covers walls up to the high ceiling.
Two twin and symmetrical white doors on the north wall: one hides the pantry and the other leads into the dining room.
The dining room is the heart of the apartment and undoubtedly its most eclectic room. It is a large space with high ceiling and an original truss where pieces of modern design mix with vintage furniture: tables by Ferruccio Laviani for Kartell, original Tulip chairs by Saarinen from the 60s, LeBambole sofa by Bellini for B&B Italy, a Venetian chandelier and collections of Italian soup tureens and Chinese boxes.
On the walls contemporary paintings next to works from the early 1900s.
Various pieces of art collected by the owner are scattered around the apartment.

TABLE MARTIN: mirror polished stainless steel structure with carbon fiber top – 100cmX240cmX74cm
Soft lines and simple design define this extra light table.. Martin combines a steel frame with a thin sheet of carbon fiber and has rounded corners and beveled edges. It takes its name from the charming character in American novelist Dale Peck’s first novel.
BOOKCASE OWEN: structure in wood lacquered and supports in carbon fiber – 150x220x45
Owen exudes a feeling of modernity and an impression of familiarity. The result of the union between two very different materials, wood and carbon fiber, is a surprising re-imagination of the classic library.
