Massimo Volonté — ART

Massimo Volonté graduated in Architecture and for some years, alongside his work as interior designer and architect for prestigious fashion brands, he devoted himself to painting obtaining excellent results.

Strengthened by his architectural training, Massimo gives his work a disjointed vision of shapes, faces and landscapes. His first paintings, like the Studies on Equilibrium (2014), are strongly geometric. Colors are predominantly primary, contrasts dominate, lines are closed, levels are isolated. Simplification, balance and finity are the objectives of Massimo's works.

These first works of study on volumes and balances evolve then in the creation of landscapes: the colors become more tenuous and harmonious with each other. The lines remain solid and well defined. Geometry is still the rule.

Geometry that also permeates works such as Self-Portrait (2016) and Portrait of Maria Sole (2016), where the individual elements of the face are nothing but broken and simplified geometrical shapes.

In Massimo's work, overbearing classical references emerge. But not only. The author of these works is a profound admirer of the work of the Cubists, of Mario Sironi and of Claudio Tonti, and all of this resurfaces in his paintings. The finished lines and the decomposition/composition of the volumes have Cubist references.

In Tuscan Landscape (2017) and Long Shadows (2017), instead, the colors and brushstrokes of the sky recall Sironi, while the main use of red and black, and the strong chromatic contrasts of works like Closed Box on Red Background (2015) are a tribute to Giorgio Tonti.

Equilibrium, geometry and simplification of lines and spaces are the main characteristics of Massimo's work. To all this are combined the exploration of the concepts of open/closed and empty/full and a deep research on the perception of the Form up to reach an extreme exemplification of it.
